Using Google Maps, Apple Maps, and Waze to Navigate without violations on iPhones

You can use Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze to navigate without receiving a violation.

You will want to make sure you have Waze or Google Maps already downloaded on your phone if you would like to use them. You will also need to start the navigation routing before you begin driving.

Even if your company does allow you to use Google Maps and Waze to Navigate, we strongly recommend you use Apple Maps as your navigation app. Apple Maps is optimized for iPhones and will allow you to use the app outside of the lock screen. As such, with Apple Maps, you will have full map visibility, and hear verbal queues, outside of the lock screen.

To use Apple Maps:

  1. Launch the Apple Maps app directly (or by tapping the map icon on the LifeSaver app)
  2. Before starting your drive, enter your destination into Apple Maps.
  3. Get outside of the lock screen by clicking the iPhone power button.
  4. Click the power button a second time to display the map and navigation for your drive.

To use Waze or Google Maps:

  1. Launch the LifeSaver app on your phone.
  2. Tap the Map icon on the LifeSaver app.
  3. You will then be prompted to select Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze if you have all downloaded. Select the navigation app you would like to use.
  4. Enter your destination and begin your drive as normal.

Once you begin your drive the LifeSaver app will detect that you are driving and using Apple Maps, Waze, or Google Maps to navigate. As such, the "Keep your eyes on the road" banner will not be displayed preventing you from receiving a violation.

To ensure you continue to avoid violations, make sure you stay on the navigation screen of Apple Maps, Waze, or Google Maps for the remainder of the drive.

Note: If you do not see the option to select either Google Maps or Waze, your administrator may need to enable the use of these apps in the portal. They can do so by following the instructions here:
